Description
LUMA-iD is a product design consultancy based in South London with a history of developing ideas from concept to production, so take the first step with a professional design team at no risk. The LUMA Blueprint competition has been established to help entrepreneurs with the first difficult steps with product innovation. LUMA-iD and the sponsors have all supplied their prize with the hope of giving someone the early-stage help they need to get an idea off the ground and onto their next step. The prize totals £2000 of product development, including £1000 of industrial design time from LUMA-iD, who have been shortlisted for this year’s TCT awards and 5 star google reviews. Winners will also get £500 worth of 3D printed prototypes, printed by high-quality SLS nylon 3D printing pioneers 3DPRINTUK. Engineering staple RS Components will also provide you with £200 of parts to build your working model, and once your product is proven, early-stage investment fund The British Design Fund will be giving you 2 sessions of business development advice, worth £300! 3DPRINTUK’s CEO Nick Allen will be picking the winner, based on usefulness, practicality, potential, and innovation.
The brief is to come up with a product idea that makes life easier and helps a specific group of people. It’s as simple as that! Just remember, the most important requirement is that your product must improve the lives of those who use it and there is no entry fee, so it's certainly worth a shot!
To submit your project, head over the luma-id.com/blueprint/ and follow the submission instructions. At least two pages of drawings/images will be required with your submission, but this isn't to assess your artistic ability, it just really helps us to visualise what you have in mind. Examples of what to include could be a collage of products that you like the style of and some images of the problem you've identified, or just some sketches of the idea you have in your head that you need prototyped.
Deadline for entries to Blueprint is on January 20, 2018 and results will be announced a week later. The chosen winner will receive: £1000 of Prototype Design time with LUMA-iD; £500 of SLS 3D printing with 3DPRINTUK; £200 of parts from RS Components; £300 of business coaching sessions from The British Design Fund.
