ARKxSITE is a platform for international architecture competitions to promote debate and reflection beyond the cross-cultural, ideological and disciplinary borders. It is an initiative that aims to bring together students and professionals in the field of architecture to encourage new perspectives and innovative strategies of intervention within the territory.
Description
This international one-stage architecture ideas competition invites all architecture students, young architects and young professionals with a degree in architecture Site Dwelling located on the cliff of the bay, in the village of Salir do Porto, Portugal.
Salir do Porto that must be fully preserved.
When generating a vision for an intervention located within such a spectacular place, it is essential that each proposal emphasises, respects and celebrates the site, while provide visitors with a unique experience.
The Site Dwelling, located on the cliff of the bay, in the village of Salir do Porto, aims to create a secluded destination, a place of retreat to engage with the landscape while providing shelter from the natural elements. This is a place to stay and inhabit must leave the space as they found it, empty.
Jury
Studied Architecture at ETSA. Navarra University (grad. 2004). In 2006 he became partner at Magén arquitectos. In 2007, his first work won the prestigious Bauwelt Award. Among other major awards, highlights the Giancarlo Ius Gold Medal (Padua, 2011), by the International Union of Architects. The works by Magén Arquitectos have been selected in the last three editions of the Spanish Biennial of Architecture and Urbanism (2011, 2013, 2016). Their work have been exhibited and lectured several times in Spain, Germany, Italy and France. He joined the School of Architecture of the University of Zaragoza from the course 2013/14.

John Sanden and Ingvild Hodnekvam studied architecture at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) in Trondheim, and at the Aires Mateus Diploma Unit in Universidade Autónoma de Lisboa (UAL).
After graduation they both worked for Brendeland and Kristoffersen Architects, participating in both competitions and built projects.
In 2014 they founded Sanden+Hodnekvam. Both partners have taught at the faculty of Architecture at NTNU.

Their work has been awarded the Emerging Voices Award by The Architectural League of New York (2016), the Design Vanguard Award by Architectural Record (2013), 1st. Place in the XXI Cemex Building Award (Mexico, 2012), the Young Artists Grant “Jovenes Creadores” from the Arts and Culture Mexican Council (2009), they were part of the exhibition Home Delivery: Fabricating the Modern Dwelling at MoMA (USA, 2007), finalist for Mexico in the IX BIAU - Ibero-American Biennial of Architecture and Urbanism (Argentina, 2014), selected to represent Mexico in the BAL - Latin-American Biennial of Architecture (2015) and selected as part of Mexico´s Pavilion in the 15th International Architecture Exhibition at the Venice Biennale (2016).
